PSA: We are winding operations down to focus on GamingOnLinux. This site was a fun idea, but time is short and GamingOnLinux is more important.

elementaryOS, the distribution that has a massive focus on a very clean design has a few nifty updates available.

First up, their Sound Indicator gained support for controlling Bluetooth connected devices:

It's their attention to minor, yet very useful small details like that which make me really respect what they are doing.

They also adjusted the Power Indicator to enable you to adjust screen brightness directly from it, yet another small, but useful adjustment.

Their screen-shot tool was also adjusted to give friendlier names of saved files for when uploading to websites, using a dot instead of a colon for separators.

The About dialogue also went through a small refresh, with it now giving you more detailed information:

More available on their blog post.

I seriously need to take another proper look at elementaryOS, it's been a rather long time since I tried it. I imagine my girlfriend would love it for how simple and beautiful it is out of the box.

It does look pretty , I'll give them that.
So are you converting her to Linux exclusively ?

She is using Linux already , Ubuntu 16.04.

She is also streaming on GoL Twitch channel.

One step at a time, as mentioned above she does now livestream for GOL from Ubuntu, but Overwatch is currently holding her back from full-time Linux. Perhaps when that works well in Wine she will.

The eOS guys are also working on something seriously neat in their AppCenter. Essentially, you can take your OSS GitHub project, and 1-Click publish it (after an auto-vetting process). Pretty neat. https://medium.com/elementaryos/tagged/appcenter

Edit: also linked to the (now funded) indiegogo: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/appcenter-the-pay-what-you-want-app-store#/

The OS itself is pretty, it's all the other app ecosystem where it all falls flat, not even being consistent with gnome apps because elementary has it's own UX guidelines. If mixing gnome and kde apps wasn't enough.

Look into virtualization and hardware pass-through. It's not perfect, but if someone really want to use Linux then that could be an option to remove the dual boot annoyance and only have one OS.

Have you got pass-through working well ?
I tried on an AMD FX-3850 with an AMD 380 VGA card. It worked BUT the CPU spikes constantly and the sound crackles like a bag of cornflakes in a tumble drier.

My motherboard doesn't support it. However, on the Ryzen PC I will buy in the coming months I will set it up.
