PSA: We are winding operations down to focus on GamingOnLinux. This site was a fun idea, but time is short and GamingOnLinux is more important.
OpenELEC is designed to be a lightweight and easy to use distribution for media centre computers and it just had a fresh release this weekend.

This is mainly a polishing release with bug fixes, like an important bug fix for Kodi crashing when playing streams. It also has some fixes to the actual installer, to make sure installing OpenELEC is as bug-free as possible.

They also have some major package updates with mesa-17.0.5, linux-4.9.25 (Generic/RPi*), mariadb-10.1.22, samba-4.6.3, connman-1.34 and libsndfile-1.0.28.

The recent OpenELEC 8.0 from April had a major update of Kodi to 17.1 "Krypton", which was mainly a big polish and bug fix release. You can see the Kodi 17.1 changelog here. Previously OpenELEC had stuck with Kodi 16, so the OpenELEC 8.x releases are a big jump, especially since Kodi itself has an entirely new interface that's much smarter.

I have heard that some devs from OpenELEC have forked the project to form LibreELEC: https://libreelec.tv/about/
